Contractor of Choice – Mladen Buntich Construction Co. was contracted by the Los Angeles Department of Public Works. 

The Buntich team installed approximately 4,500’ of 66” welded CML steel pipe, 3,000’ of 84” welded CML steel pipe, construction of a 1,400 ft2 pressure regulating station including 30” and 36” manually-actuated butterfly valves, 30” and 36” electrically-actuated ball valves, 36” electronically-actuated plunger valve, 66” flow meter, UPS system, 250 CFM blower/ventilation system, corresponding electrical, instrumentation and telemetry systems. The regulating station also included approximately 18 tons of galvanized structural steel, stairways/platforms and grating, 70 tons of reinforcing steel, and waterproofing of all cold joints. The pipeline was installed via the open cut trench method, with excavation depths of up to 28’ and 32’ for the pipeline and regulating station, respectively, and a volume of approximately 18,000 CY of material excavated. Restoration of the existing improvements included the placement of approximately 2,100 CY of base material and 25,000 SF of asphalt paving. The project also included relocations of 4” water lines and 8” VCP sewer, LADOT approved traffic control, installation of a cathodic protection system, and restoration of existing street improvements including 67,000 SF of 8” thick concrete paving, 1,300’ of concrete curb and gutter, restoration of existing traffic striping, and 5,500 SF of new landscaping installation. A temporary pedestrian detour including handicap access ramps was provided during construction, and twin access ramps were constructed to provide access into the reservoir.
