Contractor of Choice – Mladen Buntich Construction Co. was contracted by the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority. This project consisted of the structural rehabilitation of approximately 7 miles of structurally deteriorated 42-inch diameter unlined reinforced concrete sewer pipe. The Buntich crews completed the largest (length) live flow sewer rehabilitation project in North America.

The existing sewer was located within the Prado Basin, upstream of Prado Dam and within the Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in a very sensitive environmental area. The Buntich Project Team structurally rehabilitated this project with a new liner via the sliplining method using both 30 & 36-inch inside diameter fiberglass liner with a vinyl ester interior liner without any environmental incidents.

Additional Features Include:

  • Sliplining 32,503 linear feet of existing large diameter RCP with a new CCFRPM liner
    • 16,557 linear feet was 10-foot and 20-foot 36-inch flush joint CCFRPM liner
    • 15,950 linear feet was 10-foot and 20-foot 30-inch flush joint CCFRPM liner
  • Host pipe cleaning and proofing
  • Odor control utilizing both liquid and vapor phase mitigation methods
  • Disposal of hazardous debris
  • Annular space grouting
  • Installation of new operation and maintenance access points
  • Installation and removal of multiple access shafts using beam and plate and sheet piles from depths 12-feet to 18-feet
